Keep the Focus on Jesus

It frustrates me when I see people talk about Jesus and then mix His message with personal opinions and things the world says we should focus on. We all have opinions. We all have different experiences, and we don’t always agree with one another. But when we speak about Jesus, we have to be careful that our own preferences don’t become the center of the message.
The Bible reminds us that we have all sinned and fall short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23). None of us has everything figured out. We are all growing, learning, and trying to follow Jesus. So this isn’t about pointing fingers or acting as if one person is perfect. It’s about asking ourselves an honest question: Are we keeping Jesus at the center?
Many people look to pastors, teachers, and other Christian leaders for guidance. That influence comes with responsibility. Our words can encourage people, confuse them, or cause division. When we speak, we should make it clear when we’re sharing a personal opinion and when we’re teaching what Scripture says. Those things are not always the same.
I believe we can have conversations about real life. We can talk about our experiences, our struggles, and the things happening in the world. But we should ask ourselves whether those conversations are helping people see Jesus more clearly. Are we pointing people toward His love, His truth, and the hope found in Him? Or has our own viewpoint taken over?
Jesus is the reason we are here. He created us with purpose, and our lives are meant to bring glory to God. He calls us to share the good news and help others come to know Him. That calling deserves our attention. When we spend more time arguing over personal opinions than sharing the hope of Jesus, we can lose sight of the reason we started speaking in the first place.
I pray the Lord helps all of us, especially those of us who lead or teach, to keep our hearts and words centered on Him. May we be humble enough to recognize our own shortcomings, careful enough to distinguish our opinions from His Word, and loving enough to guide people toward Jesus.
Let’s come back to the main thing. Let’s talk about who Jesus is, what He has done, and the hope He offers. May our words point people to Him.
Lord, help us keep You at the center. Give us wisdom in what we say, humility in how we lead, and love for the people You are calling us to reach. Bring our hearts back to Your purpose and help us reflect Your glory. Amen.
